Dexter

I was very fortunate to be approached by Dan who wanted to get a portrait of their late dog, Dexter, done for his husband's birthday in May. Dexter was a corgi, which is my particular favorite breed of dog so I was tickled to be able to work on this for them!

Dexter was a very special boy and the 11x14" watercolor painting came out just gorgeous. Here are some Work in Progress photos I took along the way!

The Background colors were put down first while Dexter was protected with a layer of masking fluid!

Lucy & Nike

In early November, a friend approached me about a pet portrait commission she wanted done as a Christmas gift for her daughter. She wanted a replica of a photo taken of her daughter's two cats, Lucy and Nike, of their first time laying next to one another when Nike was a newbie to the household! I was happy to replicate the photo into a large 11x14" painting, and put a focus on the animals' expressions which was a very important aspect as dictated by the client.

Here are some Work in Progress photos!

The stripes were very fun to paint. The subtle browns and blacks in the cat's fur was very fitting in watercolor!

Here is the image mostly done, but not quite. Lucy (on left) still needs her stripes and calico markings, and more details need to be added to the trunk and carpet in the background.

Here is the finished painting fully finished and in the client-bought frame! It looks wonderful in the floating frame which adds extra depth to the painting.
